We know from experience that a dip in the bathtub after a tiring day is very relaxing and unwinding. If your bathtub has faded colors, is worn out or chipped and has scratches or cracks here and there with ugly looking stains, bathing definitely goes out the window. An ugly bathtub is the worst put-off in the bathroom. If you see your bathtub deteriorating, you probably need a bathtub reglazing.

Your bathtub might have seen better days in the past but now it’s dilapidated and rusty. Replacing is one option, however when you include a new bathtub, contractor’s fee, plumbing fixtures, tilers and reaching following, costs can easily exceed above a couple of thousand dollars. This is not all as your tub has to be cut into smaller pieces so that it can fit through the bathroom door which is yet another hassle other than taking apart your bathroom and practically demolishing everything inside. So, a replacement weighs heavy on your pocket and convenience too.

Bathtub Reglazing

Reglazing is a much more efficient and economical option for restoring your bathtub to its former glory. It costs much less than a thousand dollars, depending on the area, process and type of the tub. Stains, cracks, chipping, scraping, scratches, rust etc. can be easily dealt with reglazing. Cast-iron, fibreglass, enamel, marble, polymer material tubs can be made to look like new with a day of tub reglazing. Your tub can also be coated with a completely new color to match the new paint or decoration.

The reglazing process mainly involves these steps:

1. The technician takes off the old dilapidated surface off the tub and uses a sanding paper to create a smooth surface for the next step of the process.

2. Next, the technician fills up holes, cracks, chipped surfaces and removes rust using several chemicals, adhesives and tools.

3. Technicians apply primer and several layers of coating, adhesives and sealant. After this the bathtub will be ready to be used within 24-72 hours depending on how much time it takes to dry off. Such reglazing easily lasts upto over 10 years.

There are several do it yourself tub reglazing kits available in the market and online. However, these kits use low quality materials and miss the professional touch which makes them less durable and less long lasting. The finished work also looks more like a paint job and is not smooth at all. Tub reglazing can be a great option to get rid of minor bathtub problems but if the tub is completely falling off it is better to replace it as regular maintenance and repair work can cost you more in the long run.
